Name: Hare
Age: 1200 (roughly) Origin: Revel Species: Orisonne Hair (human form): Brown Eyes (human form): Slowly change color, according to mood. Softer moods have more pastel colors, while intense moods have dark or vibrant shades. They run the full rainbow and beyond. Height (human form): 6'1" |
// appearance
Orisonne Form: Hare's natural form is roughly seventy feet long, though at least thirty feet of that is tail alone, and around fifteen feet tall. The shape of their body is similar to that of a salamander — long, rounded, and low to the ground — with six limbs sprouting from it at even measure. Their arms are more angular, lean, and sharp than that of an amphibian, ending in a hand-type shape with six fingers capped with long, thin claws. Between the last pair of limbs, at the top of their body, sprout two more limbs on either side — but these are near-formless and weightless, thick cords that float in the air above their body. Thick, black, fluffy feather-like down sprouts from the tips to the middle of these prehensile cords, impossibly soft to the touch. Behind their last pair of legs is a thick, long, and tapering tail that almost resembles a whip at the end. At the front of their body, on top of a long neck, is Hare's head: round like a salamander's, but that's where similarities end. Four enormous eyes, shaped more like squares than circles, make up the majority of the side of their head, gleaming like mirrors. Their mouth is on the underside of their head and opens in a snake-like way, extending completely from front to back. Their mouth itself is almost a void — filled with jagged, long dark shapes that line the roof of it. Hare's skin is inky black, invisible in the dark, with a pearlescent white pattern of circles that run the length of their back and glow softly in the absence of light. Contrary to the gleam that might suggest scales, Hare feels soft and supple to the touch, like a firm blanket. They are, however, not terribly warm and tend to reflect the temperature around them. |
// personality
This intensity carries over in their relationships with others, though thanks to never being able to settle, Hare does not have many friendships to their name. They are fiercely protective of mortal creatures in particular, even though it would be far easier not to care. Sometimes they feign a distaste in other people, as Hare finds their own compassion inconvenient for a multi-dimensional outlaw, but they care — deeply. If there's a dangerous situation at hand, Hare is likely to be in the thick of it, making sure that innocents are steering clear. Humor is one facet that Hare finds puzzling. They can crack a dry joke or two, but usually by accident — they don't have much practice, yet. This is also true of forging deeper bonds with other beings. Hare lacks any real experience. While they're adept at combat or being unseen, it's being seen that Hare is confused by. They're unused to emotions in others that aren't fear, hate, or anger, and will often freeze in their tracks when others show them even the simplest of kindnesses. |
// background
But they could only enjoy this for three years, at which point the Lign invaded their home dimension. The Lign are formless predators, able to decently mimic almost any race. The bigger they are, the easier it is for them to mimic. They primarily wait for nightfall, when their mimic form's terrifying "defects" aren't as easily seen, and then eat their prey alive. Though the Orisonne had some defenses, they were primarily a peaceful race and had never considered the possibility of such a ruthless invasion by a massive force. It was a bloodbath. The captain of the guard, a kindly Orisonne named Savir, convinced young Hare to escape. Some others did the same, using their abilities to weave between dimensions, but most of the Orisonne died that night, and something of Hare died as well. They began a crusade against the Lign, hunting smaller forces on other worlds, eating and interrogating them. Hare's focus was to find where the Lign called home, but none would give the information up. That didn't bother the determined, intense Hare any, who kept going on their killing crusade for hundreds of years — until they were a known threat to the Lign, and any Lign they found reacted with utter terror. It was after this time that Hare heard of a new invasion and went to try and stop it, as they always did. But this time they ended up on Earth, in a small town in Michigan, witnessing two Lign trying to eat a confused little boy. After disposing of the invaders, Hare tried their best to simply point the child in a safe direction and be on their way, not wanting to grow attached. But after encountering the child a second time, they had to admit that the safest place for him was in Hare's care. Ari Pace became their ward on that day, and though Hare feigned irritation, they were instantly charmed by Ari — and the human race in general. |
// abilities
Draftriding: Hare is capable of riding dimensional currents by harnessing a type of energy the Orisonne called Lament, a blueish-white substance that they channel through organs on their backs (which are outlined in the circular shapes there; in Hare's case, his white spots). While channeling, a film forms around their skin, protecting them from any unpleasant entry into a different dimension and the Lament. Riding these currents allows Hare to slip into different dimensions and worlds, although it's taken them some time to master.
Folding: As an Orisonne, Hare's secondary ability is to fold their massive shapes down to the bodies of other beings. This is the ability that caused the Lign to go after them, as the Lign were frightened that they might be out-mimicked and insulted that the Orisonne could do it better. Folding is far more painful for Orisonne, however, and wasn't done much. Now, for Hare, the opposite is true; they spend nearly all of their time in other forms, trying to avoid showing the Lign that they failed to kill every Orisonne. If they spend too long in other forms, they get something of a muscle cramp and need to change back for a little while. The Folding is extremely convincing, melding their flesh perfectly into whatever being they need to be, as long as that form isn't microscopic. Unfolding is rather jarring to witness, as the form is seemingly twisted outward until it viscerally "pops" and the Orisonne's form is revealed. While Folded, Hare has full use of their real strength and other senses, but is otherwise limited to the species chosen. Flight: The cord-like organs that extend from Hare's back are an organ that allows Orisonne to fly via gasses extracted from channeling Lament. While not exactly a fighter jet, an Orisonne is certainly on par with commercial flight speeds or less, "swimming" through the air. Enhanced Senses: The Orisonne were once an apex predator and this reflects in their senses, all of which are very good — but their senses of smell and sight are strong, able to track scent trails for miles upon miles. On the other hand, this sometimes does backfire in Hare being overwhelmed with bad smells... |
